FAQ
How much will my move cost?
We wish we could quote prices online — it would make everyone’s lives easier — but the truth is that the price depends on the services that you require, the amount and weight of the things we’ll be moving for you and how many of our professional movers will need to be assigned to your job.
Why do I need an on-site estimate?
For two very important reasons: your peace of mind, and our ability to provide you with the best possible moving experience. Our trained relocation specialists can give you a guaranteed not-to-exceed price for your move only after seeing the belongings you want to move and fully understanding site specifics and your needs.
Serenity movers maintain an exceptionally high rate of consumer endorsement by being properly prepared for each and every move, and that preparation requires an on-site consultation. We’ll work with your schedule to come up with a convenient time for the estimate. And please don’t worry if your house is a mess — that’s to be expected when people are moving.
Why did one moving company quote me such a low rate?
You may have found the world’s only mover who offers incredibly cheap rates and amazingly good services. Chances are far better though that you’ll be unpleasantly surprised at the end of the move.
Industry professional associations such as the American Moving & Storage Association advise consumers to be very cautious if any moving company offers you an unrealistically low price as this ould mean he will suddenly remember some extra charges once your shipment has been loaded on the truck, the doors have been padlocked and he is ready to drive off into the sunset with all of your worldly possessions.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my move?
Four to six week’s notice, if possible, is preferred and will make it easier for us to work within your preferred schedule. That said, we do our best to accommodate last minute moves. Be aware that summertime, the end of the month and weekends are always busy periods.
Are you insured?
All moving companies must legally assume liability for the value of the goods that they transport. This coverage is limited to either $.30 or $.60 per pound per article being transported if an item is lost or damaged during your move. This coverage, fully explained in theĀ Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move brochure which we will provide when we meet with you to perform the on-site estimate, is designed to cover the mover’s basic liability and obviously does not provide you with substantial protection.
If your possessions include antiques or other high-end furnishings/electronics, you may be more comfortable with more extensive liability coverage. If you have a homeowners or renters insurance policy, you can check with your insurance provider to see if your property is covered while in transit. You can also purchase insurance coverage for your move through independent insurance companies; our preferred vendors are www.movinginsurance.com and www.bakerintl.com
Can you help me dissemble/reassemble some of my things?
We will assist with the basic disassembly/reassembly of standard household items, such as beds or tables. For items requiring more complex assembly/disassembly work you’ll need to make your own arrangements prior to the move with a company that provides specialized packing services
If I pack my own boxes, do I still qualify for reimbursement if anything happens?
For self-pack moves you are covered up to the amount of your chosen valuation for damage that is obviously caused by the move e.g. if there is visible damage to the box.
How long have you been in business?
Since 1999, Serenity Movers started as a man with a van, the need for the type of premium, sensibly-priced moving services we provide quickly resulted in our growth into an independent, family-owned moving company.
What should I do to prepare for my move?
All drawers and cabinets should be empty for the move. This prevents damage to your furniture due to difficulty in handling and the stress of extra weight.
Packed boxes should not be too heavy for one man to maneuver. Pack heavy articles such as books in smaller boxes rather than using just a few large boxes. Use large boxes for lighter items like china, linens, etc. If you need specific packing advice, please don’t hesitate to call us. If you choose to pack items in a way that doesn’t meet our standards we will ask you to sign a waiver and you will be solely responsible for any damage to said item/s. In some cases, particular items in specific spaces are almost impossible to move without potentially causing some damage. In such cases the crew will advise the customer about the possible problem and if the customer wishes to proceed with moving the item/s, they will again need to sign a waiver and take full responsibility for any damage to the item/s and/or the property.
Highly valuable or irreplaceable smaller items (money, jewelry, credit cards, important documents, etc,) should not be packed and should be carried by you personally. Federal Law states that a moving company cannot be held responsible for any loss of this nature
We cannot move flammables, corrosives, explosives or perishables.
When and how do I pay?
You pay the agreed upon fee before your shipment is unloaded at your destination. Serenity Movers accepts certified checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
How much am I expected to tip?
Tips aren’t an obligation, but are always appreciated. A general rule of thumb is 15% of the total move cost.
