A decade or so ago, before Green became a marketing buzzword, Serenity Movers decided to focus on being eco-conscious. We've since transformed our business into one of the few professional moving companies on the east coast who provide ecologically aware, competitively priced moving services for residential and commercial customers.

All aspects of Serenity Movers are as earth-friendly as we can make them -- for example, we participate in the NYS GREEN Energy program, buy only green energy supplies and use only energy saving light bulbs at our offices -- and we're consistently striving to improve the way we use, reuse and recycle natural resources.

Being truly environmentally-friendly is a real challenge in the relocation business. Traditional moving methods generate tremendous amounts of waste, from wasteful packing materials to the pollution caused by diesel fuels. Here are some of the things we do to provide you with a green move:

Biodiesel Fuels: Our trucks use clean burning alternative biodiesel fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, and when used in a conventional diesel engine it results in substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter -- known ozone or smog forming precursors -- compared to diesel fuel emissions. And biodiesel essentially eliminates diesel exhaust emissions of sulfur oxides and sulfates, the chief components of acid rain.

A 1998 study on biodiesel use, sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the US Department of Agriculture, concluded biodiesel reduces net COВІ emissions by 78 percent compared to petroleum diesel. Additional research has shown that biodiesel exhaust has a less harmful effect on human health than petroleum diesel fuel.

Reuse/Recycle/Reduce: The moving industry has typically generated a tremendous amount of waste just by strongly advising its customers to utilize only new cardboard boxes and packing supplies . The idea was to make sure that boxes were sturdy enough to support the weight of their contents, and the padding was still viable. But a little care and thought solves this problem.

All the paper products Serenity Movers use are 100% recycled. At the end of day all of the boxes that we can reuse are placed back on the trucks, boxes that are not reusable are sent to the recycling center. We offer recyclable, environmentally-friendly plastic containers for rent, which will be dropped off well before a client's move and collected afterwards. We can help our customers select the most earth-friendly packing materials rather than the usual Styrofoam peanuts and petroleum-based plastic bubble wrap.
